In an effort to keep as many members and colleagues informed about the changing State of Alaska Laws, please see the following information:
Effective July 1 2015, licensure is required for all practitioners of massage therapy in the State of Alaska. A transitional ("grandfather") period which waives exam and education requirements for massage therapists who meet certain requirements is available from July 1 2015 to July 2017. Effective July 1 2017, all practitioners must meet exam and education requirements.
Please understand that your AK AMTA Board of Directors is not the same entity or connected to the State of Alaska Board of Massage Therapy. As the AMTA local leadership we often receive information at the same time everyone else does- usually when the state updates their website or sends out a mass email.
